BOSSI DI BRUZELLA
First mention of Bruzella in a document of 852 AD.
For a long time Bruzella was part of the Balerna parish,
but changed to the Caneggio Parish and remained there
till 1649. So the first church records of Bruzella was
part of the the church records of Caneggio.
The Church San Siro was first mentioned in 1579, this
was the year when the church records started, so it could
be older.
Politically Bruzella was together with Monte one Municipality
till 1609. From 1522 till 1798 Bruzella was part of the
Bailiwick of Mendrisio. Since 1803 it‘s part of the new founded
Canton of Ticino.
In 2009 Bruzella united with the villages Cabbio, Caneggio,
Morbio Superiore, Muggio and Sagno to the new Minicipality of
Breggia, named after the main River in the Valley.
